Community Health Support and Resources 

Entrepreneurs who have access to information and resources that support their health are better equipped to maintain steady work schedules, improve productivity, and enhance their overall quality of life. Yet for many small business owners, the cost of healthcare remains out of reach. 

Grameen America’s Community Health Program provides entrepreneurs with access to essential health education, support navigating the healthcare system, and chronic disease screenings. Personal health and wellbeing create the foundation for entrepreneurs to build strong, resilient, and sustainable local businesses. 

Grameen America currently offers the Community Health program in California, Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, and Texas. 

Educational Workshops

The Community Health Program staff delivers educational workshops during Grameen America weekly Center Meetings to increase knowledge and awareness of health topics including: 

• Physical activity

• Mental health

• Parenting

• Nutrition

• Women’s health

Health System Navigation and Referrals

Our team offers assistance in navigating and identifying existing community resources. Key referral areas and support include: 

• Primary care physicians

• Breast cancer screenings

• Social services

• Dental services

• Vision services

• Women’s health

• Management of health-related costs and bills

Chronic Disease Screenings

Grameen America members are offered access to basic health screenings to determine individual risk status, including: 

• ADA Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment

• Hypertension

• Cholesterol

• Nutrition counseling

With support from Grameen America’s Community Health Program, Rebeca has been able to prioritize her health so she can keep her juice shop running. 

“Focusing on my health helps me stay healthy enough to work. As a small business owner, Grameen America’s Community Health Workers makes finding doctors easy and remind me to get regular check-ups every six months and provided referrals.”

Jewelry business owner Alma started her business to better support her daughter with special needs. Grameen America’s Community Health Program helped her gain life-changing knowledge about women’s health, nutrition, and disease management that helped her, her business, and her family.
