Our mission is to provide entrepreneurs from underserved communities with a health promotion and empowerment program that utilizes a community health worker model to create healthier lives.

Who We Are
Launched in September 2016, our community health program aims to improve the health and well-being of underserved women by using a community health worker approach in a non-clinical setting. Our community health worker program currently operates in the following Grameen America locations: New York (Bronx, Jackson Heights, Jamaica/LIC, Woodside, Upper Manhattan/Inwood ) Charlotte, N.C., Connecticut, and Los Angeles (Pico Union) with further expansion to the greater LA area coming in mid-2024.
The Need
Hard-working entrepreneurs in underserved communities confront significant challenges in their ability to access healthcare and resources. Healthcare is a human right, and contending with health disparities is of critical importance in moving toward living in a just society. The need for health education and services is critical as underserved communities are disproportionately impacted by chronic health conditions, like asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Our Program
Bridging the gap between health and financial security.
As part of the Community Health Program, community health workers specialize in delivering health-related workshops at select weekly Grameen America Center Meetings. Additionally, community health workers work directly with participating members to create individualized health plans, make referrals to local providers, and help with healthcare system navigation.
Educational Workshops
Community Health Workers deliver educational workshops during Grameen America weekly Center Meetings to increase knowledge and awareness of health and financial topics including:

Nutrition
Women’s health
Health System Navigation and Referrals
Community Health Workers offer assistance in navigating and identifying existing community resources. Key referral areas and support include:
Primary care physicians
Breast cancer screenings
Social services
Dental services
Vision services
Women’s health
Management of health-related costs and bills
Chronic Disease Screenings
Grameen America members are offered access to basic health screenings to determine individual risk status, including:
