Grameen America is building on our strong track record of scale and impact to launch a five-year campaign to achieve our bold ten-year goals. Through this effort, we’ll bring life-changing opportunities to over 750,000 entrepreneurs and their families—helping them start or grow businesses, build financial independence, and create more vibrant communities or create community impact.
Grameen America will raise $600 million, through a combination of $300 million in philanthropy and $300 million in debt capital, to meet the urgent need for affordable capital and demand for Grameen America’s program across existing and new geographies. The remaining funding needed will be generated internally through interest income, and invested back into the program and communities.
The $1 billion total investment will support our ability to deliver a transformative $40 billion in loan capital invested in 750,000 entrepreneurs in underserved communities over the next ten years.
Through accelerated growth and scale, Grameen America will deepen our impact by moving entrepreneurs and their families beyond financial stability to advance true upward mobility. Together, we will promote small business ownership, strengthen local economies, and foster generational wealth from the ground up—one neighborhood at a time.

The
Opportunity
In the United States, small businesses are a vital pillar of the economy, creating 2 out of every 3 new jobs. But many low-income entrepreneurs in America are often overlooked due to limited credit histories or lack of collateral. That means potential business owners may rely on limited personal savings or high-interest alternative lending, significantly constraining their ability to start and grow their businesses.
At Grameen America, we invest in the potential of entrepreneurs. We're not just funding businesses—we're igniting possibilities. Members in our program repay their loans at a rate of 99%, demonstrating the resilience, reliability, and potential of the entrepreneurs we serve. This evidence-based, targeted approach enables us to most effectively advance our broader vision of economic prosperity for all small business owners across America.
The challenges are real. But so is the opportunity.

4%

Access to capital is more than just a pathway to control over financial futures or business growth. It means the ability to afford child care, keep up with rent, pay for a child’s education, and build intergenerational wealth. Local businesses create jobs within the community, and products and services that directly address local challenges. Successful local entrepreneurs frequently become community leaders and mentors, creating multiplier effects that inspire and support entrepreneurship. When entrepreneurs are empowered with financial resources, their success creates ripple effects that uplift households and neighborhoods alike.
With access to financial services, under-resourced entrepreneurs can change the trajectory of their families — building stability, investing in their children’s futures, and contributing to vibrant, resilient communities across the country.
“Owning a business has helped me feel more independent, patient, and financially secure. I’ve grown personally and professionally. I feel like I’m contributing to my family, but know I can lean on them when there are difficulties. I’m thankful to Grameen America for giving me a loan when I needed it the most.”

What
Sets Us
Apart
Grameen America reaches communities with the greatest barriers to access, providing opportunity for all entrepreneurs. Using our unique group lending model built on strong peer networks and trust, we do not require collateral, or credit history. This allows us to deploy large amounts of capital to underserved communities with a repayment rate of over 99%.
Every dollar invested in our microloan portfolio is reinvested in the communities we serve, creating limitless community impact. The entrepreneurs in our program repay their loans at a rate of over 99%, which means each dollar invested in Grameen America is repaid and re-invested into the community in perpetuity, strengthening businesses and local economies. Our sustainability empowers philanthropy to act as a catalyst in unlocking both scale and innovation within our programs.
The impact of Grameen America’s program is tested, studied, and proven. An independent, third-party study demonstrated that Grameen America’s model results in increased credit scores, savings, and business ownership, along with reductions in material hardship among program participants. This study marked the first time a microfinance institution in the United States has been evaluated using a randomized controlled trial.
We hire staff directly from the communities we serve, creating jobs and bringing resources, knowledge, and expertise to underserved areas.
Grameen America offers comprehensive services beyond loans to enhance members’ economic mobility. In addition to capital, we provide credit- and asset- development services; financial, business and health education; and peer support to help entrepreneurs build businesses, achieve higher family incomes, and integrate into the financial mainstream.

We are calling on changemakers to join our movement to invest in opportunities for small business owners. Through the We Are Limitless campaign, we can drive positive change for hundreds of thousands of families and communities across the country.
