Grameen America Opens Third Branch in Charlotte, NC to Expand Economic Opportunities for More Small Business Owners

The opening of Grameen America’s third branch in Charlotte addresses the growing demand for its program, which offers access to affordable capital, financial education, and peer networking support to entrepreneurs starting or growing a small business.

The new branch in Charlotte will serve parts of central Charlotte city, but also expand to neighborhoods in Concord, Greensboro, Kannapolis, and Winston-Salem. This growth will unlock more economic opportunities for more small business owners and broaden Grameen America’s reach.

Grameen America first brought its program to Charlotte, NC in 2012 and expanded to a second location in 2022. Since launching its operations in Charlotte, Grameen America has invested a total $519 million in loan capital through 108,000 microloans to 18,000 entrepreneurs.

"I've been on the Grameen America team for nearly 13 years, and being part of a mission that empowers entrepreneurs and transforms lives is incredibly rewarding. I'm passionate about continuing to provide economic support to entrepreneurs in North Carolina—especially those who may not have access to business funding or established credibility to start their businesses. Opening a third branch in the area is an opportunity to help more entrepreneurs, their families, and the entire Charlotte community."

In Charlotte, Grameen America serves entrepreneurs like Edith. As a mother, Edith always dreamed of providing a better life for her children—one where they could work hard and thrive. When Edith joined Grameen America in 2017, she opened a restaurant in Charlotte with the hope of running a family business and creating a lasting legacy.

“Grameen America gave me the opportunity to achieve my dream. Now, I have a successful business that allows me to spend more time with my family and build something lasting for my children. My next project is opening and running a food truck. It’s a way to keep growing, provide more jobs, and give back to the community.”
