Grameen America is proud to announce that we have reached a historic milestone of investing $2 billion in microloans to entrepreneurial women.

Since 2008, we have disbursed $2 billion to over 137,000 women entrepreneurs in 18 U.S. cities. Our work in underserved communities means all women, regardless of race or income, have access to fair and affordable financial services.

This important milestone secures our legacy as the fastest-growing microfinance organization in the United States and deepens our resolve to empower the lives of women business owners across the country.

Meet Sheila

Sheila owns Lasting Impressions Hosiery and Accessories, a mobile boutique on 125th Street in Harlem, next to the iconic Apollo Theater. She started her business selling hosiery, jewelry and accessories from a table as a street vendor.

With her first loan from Grameen America, Sheila added contemporary and vintage clothing to her store and the business began to thrive.

Now, Sheila has seen her profits and credit score grow, and as a mother of two adult children, she is proud of being a role model to her family.

Having my own business gives me financial freedom. With Grameen America’s support, my credit score has increased.

Our goal is to break down economic barriers for women.

Entrepreneurial women, especially women of color, lack access to affordable credit and capital. Today, only 4% of commercial loan dollars go to women-owned businesses.

Through our unique group-lending model, Grameen America offers women a hand up, not a handout. When women are given the opportunity to succeed, they have the power to achieve financial independence through their own entrepreneurial spirit.

We could not have come this far without supporters like you.

Our national scale is a testament to our members’ determination, hard work, and resilience to build a better future for their families and communities. Through support from corporations, foundations, impact investors, and individual donors, you have given microentrepreneurs the tools they need to run successful microbusinesses. As we progress to our next billion, we hope you continue to help us empower women entrepreneurs across the country.

Join us by making a donation today. Every donation means that a woman is given a hand up to realize her dreams.
