Last week, Grameen America Board Chair Muhammad Yunus inspired Westmont College students at the ninth annual President's Breakfast with a message on poverty and social business. Professor Yunus emphasized the potential for positive change in doing well by doing good. Chairman of the President's Breakfast Committee John Davies noted, "He is proof that one man can work to change the world, and we are thankful for his servitude to end world poverty."

From January 21st through February 19th, every Whole Foods Market Oakland and Berkley shopper who brings in a reusable bag can donate their 5 cent credit to Grameen America. Each nickel brings our Bay Area women one step closer to fulfilling their entrepreneurial dream.

Last Thursday (May 19, 2011) we had our first Spring Social event at the Trespa Design Centre hosted by Grameen America’s Young Professional (YP) committee. The event was organized to raise awareness about the great work that Grameen America is doing and also to fundraise for Grameen America borrowers. It was no doubt also a great networking event for young professionals who share a common mission of helping create a better world.

On May 3, 2011 we were saddened to learn of the passing of one of the original figures of the microfinance movement, Mrs. Mildred Robbins Leet. Today Grameen America recognizes her outstanding contribution to the field of microfinance for over 32 years through her organization Trickle Up. Who She Is: Mrs. Leet was a philanthropist and activist who, along with her late husband Glen, was a co-founder of the non-profit microgrant organization Trickle Up.
